Bible Study

Study the Bible to gain wisdom, guidance, direction, and to know God.

The Bible gives us guidance and direction – instructions on how to live a spiritual life. This helps us be more obedient and know the difference between right and wrong. Study your Bible to see what God has in store for your life!

Bible Study. . .

is the time you take to study the Bible either with other people (a group Bible Study) or by yourself. You take this time to learn more from the Bible about Christ and what He did for you! Bible study is about more than just reading the Bible; it’s about digging deep and educating yourself in the living Word of God.

Both Bible study and Bible reading are important, but they are different. Bible reading is just reading or listening to the words of the Bible. On the other hand, Bible study is more involved, as you dive deep into the word of God to try to learn and understand It better. You might read the Bible many times during Bible study. They tie directly together!

Take a listen to a podcast from Donnie King about the importance on studying the Bible.

Why Study The Bible?

Study the Bible to understand your Salvation

Romans 10:17 reads, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God..” That is powerful stuff! How can you understand how great of a gift your salvation is without studying the Bible?

You need to read what Christ did for us for yourself. If you need a fresh place to start, check out John. It’s a great book for new Christians!

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

Learn the truth of the Bible for yourself

We often listen to sermons or others’ teachings, so why study the Bible? These people have done the work for you, right? Wrong! You need to learn and verify the truth for yourself!

The importance of Bible study is clear: Teach us for ourselves what the truth is.

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Acts 17:11

The Bible provides encouragement

If you don’t think this is true, check out the Psalms. They are beautiful and full of encouragement that you can use in any situation.

The Bible was not meant to be a decorative book on your nightstand. It was meant to be loved and studied! Open it up to find all the wonderful words of hope and encouragement!

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. Psalm 28:7

I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4

Study the Bible to strengthen your faith

A great reason to study the Bible. It pulls you closer to God, increases your faith by magnitudes, and helps you understand what you believe. When you grow closer to God, you can feel it because you begin to understand Him and His will for your life a little more.

If you keep an open heart and a willing soul when you read the Bible, you will begin to understand it better than ever before, and you will be blessed in many ways!

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Joshua 1:9

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10

Resist temptation with the Word of God

The more you understand the Bible, the better you can resist temptation. The more committed you are to your faith, the stronger you are against the devil. Knock evil out by knowing the Bible front to back!

I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. Psalm 119:15

Temptation is defined as “an enticement or invitation to sin, with the promise of greater good to be derived from following the way of disobedience, which especially in the spirit world and the life ever-after brings destruction.

James 1:14-15 writes about how each one is tempted which happens when you are drawn away by your own desires and enticed. Oh, but the sad part is if you give into temptation and sin then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Understand and defend your beliefs with the Bible

People are going to challenge your faith; you need to have clarity in what you believe in so that you can defend yourself. Being knowledgeable about the Bible will help with this!

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 1 Peter 3:15

Defending your faith can help bring people to God. And to do that you must know the Bible. Sometimes it’s hard for people to give their life to Christ when they don’t fully understand him. As you help someone understand Jesus, God can use you to help save them from hell. Use the Bible and the words that God has given us to defend your faith and your beliefts.
